Portrait Photography Lighting
Danny
Eitreim writes, "We soon learn that wide faces can be visually
narrowed, narrow faces can be visually widened, noses can be
shortened, cheekbones can be raised. Not to mention - blemishes
can be minimized, wrinkles softened and weight reduced. Then it
finally hits. Lighting is important. We start to realize that
being a photographer entails more than buying the latest digital
gadget and spending countless hours in Photoshop."

Perspective and Depth in Photography
Andrea
Ghilardelli writes, "Perspective is a part of geometry teaching
how to render a three-dimensional figure on a two-dimensional
surface, so that, looking at the representation, we have the
same impression that we have with the real figure. Therefore, it
is easy to see that perspective is very important in
photography. This is particularly true in landscape photography.
A photographer should know how perspective works and how to
exploit it to render reality as he or she desires."

Image File Format Differences
Mike
Singh writes, "We spend hours and hours, taking the best
photographs we can, and when we're done - we apply special
techniques to them with a special editing software to enhance
what we've originally seen. When we are done, we try and save
them in the correct format to preserve the image in the best way
possible, but most people have no idea what the differences
are."

How a Digital Camera Works
Paul
Lines writes, "The image sensor is an electronic device that is
composed of electrodes (also known as photosites). These
electrodes measure the intensity of the light. The CCD (charge
coupled device) is the most common image sensor available. Other
sensors include the CMOS and the Foveon. The digital camera gets
its megapixel (also known as millions of pixels) rating from the
number of photosites the image sensor has. Every photosite is
connected to a pixel in the final photo."
