Post-processing in photography is a very difficult art to master, most professionals develop their own unique style and approach to editing photos through lots of trial and error. Documentary and travel photographer Mitchell Kanashkevich has constructed an excellent E-book that walks you through the process of how to effectively and professionally post-process your photos.
This is one of the more useful ebooks I have read in a long time. Through in-depth step by step tutorials, illustrations and explanations, this ebook will help you produce striking images with plenty of impact – the tutorials are based on Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
Understanding Post-Processing is now available for $12 through Mitchell Kanashkevic’s website.

This E-book goes right to the heart of Mitchell’s approach towards post-processing his award-winning photos. There are five images and five tutorials that go through the steps he took in order to achieve the look of each image.
Each of the in-depth tutorials within this book include:
- An introduction to the image and a look at what needs to be done to it
- Basic initial adjustments are illustrated and explained
- Step by step look at the workflow, slightly different for each image
- High-res before and after images for up close analysis
Our cameras are not nearly as potent as our eyes; the range of tones and colors that cameras are capable of capturing is far below what our eyes can see. Something that looked great at the time of shooting may no longer look so good in the image that comes up on the computer screen. This is particularly true in regards to RAW files, which really tend to be on the flat side, as far as colors and tones are concerned. A good image is still good, even if it is a flat RAW file, but it is not necessarily publishable or suitable for a client. This is where post-processing comes in.
Mitchell says, “Usually my main objective with post-processing is to make the photograph that comes out of the camera match the image that was captured with my eyes and processed with my brain. That image looks striking, but believable. It is not adjusted to the point where my Lightroom/Photoshop work takes up all the attention. A ‘believable image’ doesn’t however mean that the final look can’t border on the surreal. In real life things often look magical and surreal and if you or I feel the magic at the time of shooting, it’s only reasonable to re-create it in the image. We just have to make it as ‘real-life magical’ as possible.”
I recently spoke to Mitchell Kanashkevich about his book, and he was kind enough to setup a special discount to PictureCorrect readers.
