You’ll definitely be making lots of mistakes when starting out in photography. Of course making mistakes is fine – it’s an important part of the learning process. But what’s a real bummer is if you keep on making the same mistakes time and again, and you can’t figure out what you’re doing wrong. If that’s the case, there’s a high chance that you’ll end up becoming super frustrated with photography. So, to ensure that you’re not stuck in an endless loop of making mistakes and losing your drive to learn photography, photographer and educator Paul Farris from Photo Genius talks about 10 common mistakes that beginner photographers make and also shares some tips on improving photography:
In his video, Farris covers some gear related mistakes that beginners usually make. He covers why it’s not always a good idea to leave the stabilization feature enabled, why you should consider using a tripod, and why it’s good to try out any other lens that you may have. He also shares why you should know your gear inside out. Doing so helps you understand the limitations of your gear and prevents any possible frustration.
Besides gear, Farris also talks about common mistakes regarding camera settings that beginner photographers make. For instance, some insist on staying put in manual mode for the sake of appearing professional. Then, there are others who can’t imagine leaving auto mode. As Farris shares in the video, both of these schools of thought have some quirks.
If you’re a beginner photographer and have been struggling to progress in photography, be sure to go through the entire video. You might just find what you’ve been doing wrong.

Hi, I have just watched your video on 10 beginners mistakes and found you are very easy to listen too and easy to follow. I use a Nikon P900 which is a bit different being a fixed lens but it was purchased for the 2000mm zoom. It cannot do all things that interchangeable lenses can but a fun camera to use. Looking forward to more.
