Like most great photographers, Sandro Miller, can name dozens of historic photographers who have shaped his career. Wanting to pay tribute to these sources of inspiration, Miller carefully chose 35 photos from artists who have most influenced his work. He then called up his friend, who just happens to be John Malkovich, and asked him to help him out with something. From there, Miller’s latest project, Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich, was born:
Malkovich sat in as the model for famous photographs, such as Dorothea Lange’s image of a migrant mother and Annie Leibovitz’s photo of John Lenon and Yoko Ono. The actor’s expressions are spot on in each and every photograph. The full collection of images will be exhibited at Chicago’s Catherine Edelman Gallery starting in November.
“John is the most brilliant, prolific person I know. His genius is unparalleled. I can suggest a mood or an idea and within moments, he literally morphs into the character right in front of my eyes. He is so trusting of my work and our process… I’m truly blessed to have him as my friend and collaborator.” –Sandro Miller
