Posing for Portraits is Awkward

Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “Definitive Moment”—the moment when you click the shutter to get the very best image. It’s something all photographers should strive for, especially when taking portraits. But what would happen if instead of clicking the shutter at the definitive moment, you took video instead? In this short video by editor Dean Fleischer-Camp, we find out. You may want to consider doing more candid photography:

Instead of natural, happy stills we see how uncomfortable and stilted many people are when posing for a photograph. The video, which has gone viral, is both funny yet strangely discomforting,  a series of clips where people think they are being photographed but are really being filmed. So next time someone offers to take your picture, don’t try to freeze the definitive moment, you never know if your photographer has pressed the record button.
