You may have noticed over the last few months that our page load times have improved significantly. Previously we were on a high-end dedicated server at Singlehop, who ultimately let us down, charged us for an extra month, and refused to return the payment. As this site has grown to serve over half a million photographers per month it has been very difficult and expensive to find a good (and considerate) hosting service to help us stay online with fast load times.
But this site is now speedily hosted here: WPEngine WordPress Hosting
If you have a photography site or blog hosted on wordpress, you may want to give them a try. We were pleasantly surprised with the speed improvements:
Evercache Technology
Their proprietary EverCache technology combines proxy servers, database, disk caching, and content delivery networks to serve your media incredibly quickly. They also make sure you’re using scalable plugins that don’t slow down your site.
Then there’s the stuff inside WordPress itself: They crunch bytes out of your images, and rewrite the WordPress HTML output to take advantage of more optimizations.
EverCache is one of the most scalable WordPress architectures on Earth. The technology behind EverCache is WP Engine’s proprietary system that moves hundreds of millions of hits per day through their system. Even with a significant traffic spike you can be sure that EverCache will handle it like a champ.
EverCache is WP Engine’s “secret sauce” that makes every WordPress site they host incredibly fast, and ridiculously scalable.
They currently have an interesting deal for new customers: 60 days of Free WPEngine Hosting
