Autumn has to be one of the best times of the year for photographers. The foliage adds a spark of life that is simply of another level. It makes a mundane scene appear much livelier—and the change doesn’t last very long. You can truly appreciate the beauty of nature during autumn. This is why many photographers plan long especially for autumn photography and even go that extra mile to fulfill it. However, for photographer Jared Schattenkerk, the following was an impromptu shot.

Schattenkerk photographed the image at Adirondack State Park in New York. He shot the image on a Sony A7RIV camera with a Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM lens at f/9, 203mm, ISO 100 and 0.6 seconds.

As Schattenkerk explained, although the objective of his visit was to photograph the sunset, the unfavorable conditions meant that he had to “settle” for this composition. And yet the image has come out brilliant.

“I came to the pond for a sunset photo, and although the sky didn’t cooperate, I was able to get this picturesque photo of the vibrant trees reflected in the pond.”

The colors in the trees are drop-dead gorgeous; it epitomizes the spectrum of colors in nature’s arsenal. Just glance from the foreground up to the back and you can see so many hues. It’s like nature’s showing off.

And to top it off, Schattenkerk’s idea of including a small portion of the pond has worked perfectly here. The calm and blurry reflections of the trees add a sense of symmetry and beautifully balance the image.

The place appears so beautiful that it makes the heart yearn. It would be a dream to spend some time in a place like this. Wouldn’t you love to be here?
