Depending on how you see it, the image can be very confusing at first. Is it an aerial shot of a perfectly round island? Or is that an orb in the sky? You can even think of it as a view of a nuclear explosion over the ocean. Thankfully, it is an image of something that’s much more peaceful.

As the photographer explains, the image is of a candle in the snow. The top-down perspective with which he shot this image has given a totally unique look and feel to this common household object. Besides the perspective, it’s also the interplay of light and shadows in the snow that adds to the illusion.
