European castles are generally magical – but the elevated Neuschwanstein Castle has to be in the top ten most enchanting. Seemingly floating above the clouds, it draws travelers near year-round. One of whom was Michael Kühneisen, who seems to have come at the most opportune time!
In the winter, this 7-story turreted medieval structure becomes a fairytale castle, gently draped with a coat of powdery snow. In fact, it looks almost as if it is a model, not a real-life castle! All around, the trees and mist in the distance soften any sharp angles or off-white tones. Apart from the perfect pink-orange tinge off in the distance, that is.
Michael used his Sony A7RV and the 16 35 F4 PZ to photograph the castle. But we all know that timing is what really matters when it comes to landscape and architectural photography! Luckily, he also reportedly arrived right on time:
We were lucky that the ground was covered by mist and our cold hike was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
Though he didn’t peek inside to see the interior of the castle, it is reportedly just as Baroque. Featuring fully-paneled carved wooden rooms, human-sized candelabra & chandeliers, and frescoes on almost every wall, a visit here is a trip back in time!
