I was thrilled to recently interview one of the most popular members of our photography network who agreed to answer some questions for our readers. Ryan is a photographer based in Tokyo, Japan who brings a unique style to photojournalism. What tips or advice do you have for other aspiring photographers? Love what you’re doing! For me that’s the core of photography. Don’t do it because you have to, do it because you love to! And if you do, that will really show in your shots! And for starters, don’t focus on being a pro, you won’t get there that fast. Take time to learn, take time to master what you are into.
Stage photography is by nature different because you’re capturing a performance where practically anything can happen if you haven’t seen the show before. And the performers are going to be as dynamic as they ever get. Its in a class of documentary photography. What happens may only happen once and it is therefore both difficult and fun. What follows is my take on how I feel about it. I will cover preparation, being ready, passes shooting modes and in particular manual mode.

To many people new to digital photography, just the words “manual mode” are enough to start their knees shaking nervously. Surely, one of the benefits of modern cameras is that much of the tough decision making is taken out of your hands so that you can concentrate on picture composition, and actually taking the shot? […]
Close-up photography, or macro photography as it is sometimes incorrectly called, is a genre hat many want to try as they learn digital photography. One of the first accessories I bought when I started out in photography was a set of close-up filters. Close-up photography can be very expensive but there is a way of […]
Edward Verosky has just released an eBook aimed to make photographers more confident in all flash photography situations. Flash photography is definitely a tricky subject, I know that I have been one to panic at dimly lighted events when people are depending on me to capture great photos. This new book is called 100% Reliable Flash Photography and is all about gaining the skill and confidence you need to create great images with the most basic and available lighting sources.
What is exposure? In photography, it simply means the amount of light to which the film or sensor has been exposed. The next question is how do we control the exposure? The shutter speed is one factor, the aperture setting is another factor. The creative use of the two variables aperture setting and shutter speed, gives us a way to produce artistic freedom and impart emotion and feeling. The controls require us to make choices and experiment with settings but they provide artistic liberty as we build our body of experience and knowledge.
A summary based on thousands of cameras of all brands I have seen and repaired. The weak spots of the camera: LCD display Glass! Easily broken, when knocked or pressure applied! Media compartment CF Card – long pins inside the camera need to access contacts inside the little holes of the card. Even tough the […]
