The simplest explanation I’ve come across is that red-eye is the reflection of light, in our case the flash, through the open retina of the eye. We’ve all seen it’s effects in the glowing red eyes of animals, kids and adults that have been captured on film using flash photography.
As a modern, contemporary portrait artist, working in Light and Shadow, (photography), my goals are to 1) show my subjects in the best light, 2) portray them honestly, so the viewer gets a sense of their personality, and 3) make them look better in the finished portrait than in real life!
Digital noise in photos taken with digital cameras is random pixels scattered all over the photo. It is a similar effect as “grain” in film photography and it degrades the photo quality. It usually occurs when you take low light photos (such as night photos or indoor dark scenes) or you use very slow shutter speeds or very high sensitivity modes.
Modern cameras are highly automatic in operation. They have auto focus and auto exposure. The camera will focus on the subject – often identified by a small circle or square at the centre of the viewfinder – and calculate an appropriate exposure by detecting the level of reflected light – usually from the same spot. A slight pressure on the shutter release will activate those two functions, without taking a picture. Further pressure on the shutter release will result in a photo being taken.
Photography at night can be used to create amazing pictures. For this kind of photography a tripod is almost a must. If you want to get a clear exposure with a great depth-of-field, then you will need a tripod.

What is the best focal length for portrait photography? In other words, if you are using a zoom lens, what is the best zoom position for taking a picture of one or more persons? What’s different between a close-up and a full-length portrait? Answers to these questions will let us make more refined images of the people we love to photograph.
Be on top of your exposures like dirt on a pig. Know your histograms and image tones. Don’t just use your LCD as a reference. Your LCD brightness varies, and is not 100% reliable to use on it’s own, however it is an integral tool that works with everything else. Never get lazy here, always check your exposure, know your exposures and keep it accurate.
In portrait photography there are a few guidelines that you should review and think about when you take pictures of people. The three general types of portrait photography are: close-ups or facial shots, upper body shots, or environmental portraits (where you focus on the subject and the surrounding environment that gives the subject character).
