The top commercial photographers are amongst the highest paid in the business. In this video we follow photographer Dave Hill as he assembles a cast of many and a veritable battery of lights, wireless slaves, tripods, computers, and cameras to produce a photo advertisement for the Ford Fusion:
The first thing that strikes you is the sheer complexity involved. The shoot involves various models in different scenarios and locations that will all be montaged into one final image. The cameras are tethered to a Mac Pro computer with two screens to provide instant feedback. In fact, the entire shoot is more like a mini movie production than a photo shoot, with numerous technicians, make up artists, actors, including two canine actors, and of course, the photographer and his assistants.
The video gives us a rare glimpse into the sheer amount of work involved in producing a large scale advert for a major blue chip client.
