Digitization of our photographs has made storing mass amounts of images much easier and certainly less physically space consuming. One of the downfalls, however, is that now instead of being limited to 36 frames per roll, we can go on shooting nearly endlessly, meaning we are taking more photographs than ever before. Keeping your digital photo gallery orderly and manageable presents a whole different set of issues. Join Tim Grey as he delivers a two-hour long educational seminar on how you can use Adobe’s Lightroom software to seamlessly manage your galleries. Take a look:
Benefits of Using Lightroom
- Lightroom stores images as a database, whereas Adobe Bridge relies on the operating system to organize them.
- Easy access to catalog, sort, and navigate through large amounts of photos.
- Lightroom remembers file info from the image files to make loading and preview much faster.
- XML sidecar files make recovering lost catalogs easier. (Select Automatically Write Changes into XML in the Options > Metadata tab.)
- Option to use Google Maps to translate GPS Coordinates to city names.
Inside the seminar, Grey gives an in-depth look at the many facets of Lightroom that are designed to make your workflow more unified. Not only does he tell viewers about all the tips and tricks he has incorporated into his workflow, but he also makes sure we know how to implement them into our own workflow using easy to understand directions and visual aides.
“Once you start using Lightroom, you’re committed. That doesn’t mean you can’t do certain things that go outside of Lightroom like Photoshop or Nik HDR Efex Pro or some of these other tools that sort of work with Lightroom and also outside the context of Lightroom. But, when it comes to managing your images, everything happens inside of Lightroom. You have to be able to commit to that. Things can get out of control in a hurry if you don’t.”
