Let’s be honest: we’ve all taken selfies. Maybe we’ve even tagged them with the hashtag #selfie. But have you ever actually browsed through them all? If you have, you’d notice the maybe unsurprising similarities between them—a sea of identical duck faces tossed into the Internet oblivion. Need proof? Watch this music video:
The video is by French DJ Hiérophante, who’s nicely edited together hundreds of hashtagged photos via Instagram, connected them at the common denominator (be it a #peacesign, #salad plate or Kim Kardashian’s cleavage) and stitched them together in a new song, aptly titled Clichés.
On the video’s YouTube page, the artist explained the concept this way:
“I took advantage of our tendency to be unoriginal on social media to make this animation. Everything from images search to editing is made ‘by hand’ without any automated software. Some people point out to me that some similar videos already exists so it seems that making a video about clichés is a cliché too…
