Landscape Photographer Shares His Favorite Lens

As a landscape photographer, you’ll find yourself relying on a wide range of focal lengths. This means carrying multiple lenses with you, which is not always a good thing. Landscape photography usually requires you to hike quite a bit, and sometimes the terrain can be really tough. Overloading yourself with unnecessary weight is not a good idea.

Wouldn’t it be great if you had one lens that could cover most of the focal length range and still deliver excellent results? Seems like landscape photographer Nigel Danson has found the perfect lens for his own landscape photography adventures:

A common issue with most of the lenses that cover a wide focal range is that they lack quality. Their sharpness is usually mediocre at best and the variable aperture makes them even less desirable. Like Danson shares in the video, he faced these challenges with this 24-200mm lens.

Danson’s new favorite, however, is the 24-120mm f4 Z lens from Nikon. When choosing a ranged lens, he looked back at photos he’d taken earlier, and noticed most of them were in the 24-120mm range. So it was almost a no-brainer for him to work with the lens. Having one lens that is light, takes incredible photos and gets your job done is far better than carrying multiple lenses.

Be sure to watch the full video as Danson takes the video out on the field. You can also see some real-world photographs in the video that Danson took to see the lens in action. He also walks you through some of the prints of shots taken with this lens. And as you’ll see, the details are just amazing.
