Landscape Photographer Shares Tips to Save Money on Gear

It is quite common for photographers, especially new ones, to have the constant urge to buy new equipment. Some hope that new camera gear will improve their photography. Others do it just to own the latest and greatest gear. While we don’t recommend buying camera gear just for the sake of it, you can always find ways to save when you’re in the market. In today’s video, pro photographer Mads Peter Iversen shares some tips on how you can save some money when buying gear for your landscape photography:

Iversen outlines the types of camera gear you might want to buy, and offers suggestions that’ll help you make smart decisions. For instance, if you’re getting a tripod, don’t get the biggest one. While it might seem to be the best quality, chances are you won’t want to drag it out in the field. A wiser decision would thus be to get something smaller but still sturdy.

“Do you actually need the biggest, baddest, most expensive camera—or can you compromise?”

Your choice of a camera system can help you save a lot. That’s because camera bodies are useless without lenses. And good quality full-frame lenses tend to cost much more than their APSC counterparts. A great tip when selecting a camera body is to evaluate if you actually need a camera that has all the bells and whistles. If a slightly older model can get your job done, you can grab one at a much cheaper price. Even better if you can get a used one that’s in good shape.

In the video, Iversen talks more about other accessories and behavioral changes that can actually help you save while positively impacting your photography. If you’re one who tends toward extravagance, be sure to watch the whole video. You’ll definitely get some tips to save your hard-earned money.
