Expedition 31 Flight Engineer Don Pettit says, “My star trail images are made by taking a time exposure of about 10 to 15 minutes. However, with modern digital cameras, 30 seconds is about the longest exposure possible, due to electronic detector noise effectively snowing out the image. To achieve the longer exposures I do what many amateur astronomers do. I take multiple 30-second exposures, then ‘stack’ them using imaging software, thus producing the longer exposure.”

With all the rich information, excellent example imagery (including settings information), and visual aids to explain concepts; I found this eBook to be very helpful and plan to keep it as a reference in the field.

Trick Photography and Special Effects by Evan Sharboneau is a very popular instructional eBook that explains how to do most of the trick photos that often capture attention and amazement from viewers. With 190 pages of information, it is very detailed and includes extensive explanations of many complicated techniques that are very fun to learn. I found this eBook to be very useful and refreshingly original. This eBook is structured so that at any point in time you can jump to just about any page and start getting inspired with new ideas and techniques. It is split into three well-organized modules.
