Interesting Photo of the Day: Dandelion Sunset

When composing an image, an interesting technique to use can be juxtapositioning. Simply put, juxtaposition photography involves combining two or more elements in the same picture, highlighting the interesting contrast between them. As a result, you get images that are eye-catching and thought-provoking. Take for instance the following image taken by a photographer who goes by the name of muesli4brekkies. The way he’s composed this fantastic image is quite interesting:

He shot the image using a Sony a68 camera with a Tamron 70-300mm tele-macro lens at 180mm, f10, 1/4000s. Considering the size of a dandelion, you can easily tell that composing this image had to be a challenge in itself. After all, it’s not easy to line up such a tiny little herb against the sun nearing the horizon. Also, considering how easily they get swayed by the wind, we can anticipate all the effort that must have gone into taking this image.

“I had to pat down the grass in front, stuff the camera down into the vegetation and use the flip-out screen. This is the best out of maybe 50 shots as the dandelion was flapping about in the wind.”

Besides the effort, the idea in itself is another interesting aspect of the image. The juxtaposition of something so minuscule against something that is incomprehensibly huge is simply beautiful. Moreover, thanks to the setting sun, the mood in the image is of an entirely different level. The contrast of the warm golden sun and the sky with the dark silhouette of the dandelion altogether pack a powerful punch.

If you’re looking for a photo idea, how about giving this concept a shot? By doing so, you’ll also get a chance to realize and appreciate the effort that goes into making such images.
