This is one of those shots where your brain has no idea what’s going on. This can be bad or good, depending on the situation:
In the case of this photo of raccoons, the confusion turned out pretty fun; you can see a rock floating in the sky behind the little critters. However, that rock is actually in a pond, and the water is so clear that it makes a mirror-like reflection of the sky, tricking our brain into thinking it is really the sky we’re seeing. There are many instances where photographers use this phenomenon to create interesting images. In this case the photographer used it by chance.
