On March 12, three International Space Station crew members made their way home to Earth after spending 167 days in space. As the Soyuz spacecraft they were traveling in broke through the Earth’s atmosphere and parachuted to the ground, NASA photographer Bill Ingalls was nearby to capture some incredible photos, including this one of the spacecraft safely floating over a sea of golden clouds:

Ingalls is a professional photographer with over 27 years of experience under his belt. He’s been NASA’s Senior Contract Photographer since 1989. This is just one of the missions he’s had the privilege of photographing for them.
NASA astronaut Commander Barry Wilmore, and Russian Federal Space Agency cosmonauts, Alexander Samokutyaev and Elena Serova were onboard the spacecraft that landed successfully in Kazakhstan on Wednesday morning.
