Photographing rock bands may just be one of the more exciting types of photo assignments. They’re usually high energy and very creative ordeals. There’s no exception to that on Sasha Leahovcenco’s recent photo shoot with drummer Mike Johnston. To celebrate Johnston’s recent switch to Gretsch drums, he was photographed using them with kerosene soaked, flaming drumsticks. Very cool. Check out the behind the scenes here:

- Canon 5D Mark II
- 50mm f/1.4 lens
- 35mm f/1.4L lens
- Profoto Octobox, 5-ft as the main light
- LED wash lights above and behind Johnston as backlights
- He also filled the space with smoke via a smoke machine
