Snowglobe Timelapse Celebrates the Wonders of Christmas in Vienna

Christmas is a truly magical time of the year. Regardless of whenever you live, it’s hard not to notice a Christmas star or a home adorned with twinkling lights. Nowhere is the Christmas spirit this vibrant and celebrated with such fervor as in Austria.

This short timelapse video made by FilmSpektakel captures the essence of the Advent, a period starting on a Sunday four weeks from Christmas Eve:

When we think of Austria we think of Innsbruck, Vienna, Salzburg, of the Bavarian mountains high above Obersalzberg, riding a horse drawn sleigh somewhere near Schladming, admiring the magnificent Melk Abbey, a fine specimen of Baroque architecture, and the many other places strewn across this country set in the heart of the Alps.

But what is more enjoyable—and especially during this time of the year—are the Christmas markets, also known as the “Christkindlmarkt” of Vienna, Innsbruck, and Salzburg. Some of these markets date back several hundred years.

All of the imagery captured for this timelapse video was shot in Vienna at the many beautiful places that it is known for. The lights, the fervor and the spirit, truly transform Vienna into a magical city.
