It’s every child’s dream to one day grow up to be an astronaut. For these two lucky children that dream seemed to come true, thanks to photographer Kristina Varaksina and her production team. Go behind the scenes and see what it took to bring one photographer’s vision to life:
Varaksinia and her team sketched out an idea for her personal project in pencil and ink. From a visual on paper, a design team and two pint-sized models worked together to bring the the 2D into 3D.
The models, primped and ready for the camera, donned funky space suits and posed separately for photographs.
Lights and a smoke machine set the mood on location in a San Francisco residential backyard.
A separate background shot was manipulated in an editing program and overlaid with the images of each future space explorier.
A digital 3D model of a space ship was created and inserted into the image.
Some tweaking with filters, lighting, and shadows, and the final inspiring image was complete.
It’s amazing what a little creativity and post-processing know-how can produce.
